Butt Out!!!

Can the government keep people safe without limiting the people’s rights? This is a big question I have had on my mind. There have been big events in the past year dealing with our rights, but is having a right more important than being safe? I asked my self this question and personally I would sacrifice one of my rights for my own safety, but is there a way that we can have both? I have come to the conclusion through research that there is a middle ground we can have the best of both worlds. One  example where we can still have safety without taking away our rights is gun control laws.Let the people still own guns but put limits on it. Make people get back round checks or make clips illegal.  The constitution says  people have a right to keep and bear Arms, but it doesn’t say anything about having the right to put extensions on your gun. If you make clips illegal people can still own the gun. One thing that has made safety laws in our society difficult is how vague our constitution is. The framers left it up for us to figure out exactly what they meant. Back in the 1800s they probably never dreamed how advance our technology would be. The trouble is trying to decide if they meant all guns including very dangerous ones or just the average hunting gun. The constitution is the reason why the government has not passed any laws about owning guns or accessories to guns. The crazy part about gun control laws is the government hasn’t passed anything because they don’t want to over step and take away one of our constitutional rights but yet they have no trouble making you wear a seat belt in your own car or wear a helmet on your bike. Has the government  slowly started to strip us of our rights for the sake of safety? When will we say enough’s enough?  Will the government only care about our rights when it comes to them getting reelected?

Stripes Causing Strife

Humans interact with there environment. This is our big idea. What this means is that we rely on the environment for our everyday needs. The environment gives us resources renewable and nonrenewable and flow. We have such a demand for these resources that we have to modify our environment to get them in the quantity we need. When we need wood we chop forest down. One example of us modifying and using our environment is the 3 gearges dam.  China needed power so they took a flow resource they had and built a huge dam this gives china power but there were a lot of unintended and intended consequences. For instance china new they would have to reallocate people an lose some ancient artifacts. What they didn’t know was that the dam would cause slides. When ever humans modify and use their environment there are always going to be consequences whether good or bad. And the big idea tells us that we interact with our environment and we always will. Also that we have to watch how much we modify the environment because if we do it to much it will cause detrimental effect.

Humans interact with the environment in several ways. One way humans interact with their environment is by using it to get around. We use the ocean as a way to transport information and goods from all around the world. This is a great and efficient way to get around but it comes at a cost. Using big cruise ships to get  around has made some big problems for aquatic life. Zebra muscles have gotten stuck in the bowls of the ship and when they blow the water out they also end up blowing the zebra muscles out. The zebra muscle become invasive species and disturb the habit. Over the years  zebra muscles have spread across the united states. This has been a big problem for many reason. One reason is finitely they have spent $3 billion on the annual cleaning and restoration of pipes and other varies objects zebra mussel’s have damaged. Another problem zebra muscles have brought on is physical harm to the environment.  They have thrown off the food chain. This has caused some animals to have to struggle to get food and decrease in population. Also they have put pollutants into the water which is harmful to humans because we are eating fish that have been living in pollution. The way that we have interacted with our environment has caused some issues.

Holiday Cheer or is it Just a Wast?

Santas elves have nothing on the people who work at Disney. During the Christmas holiday season Disney puts up 8.5 million lights, 15 miles of garland, and 30,000 yards of ribbon. With in one night Disney gets turned into a winter wonderland. Everything that you could possible decorate gets decorated. The workers work all year round for this one holiday, making hand crafted decoration. They store all these decoration in giant ware house that are as long as three football fields. Its crazy that for one holiday they use 8.5 million lights in some countries they don’t have that many lights all together. On Cinderella’s castle alone there are 200,000 lights on fish nets. When they are all hooked up they use the same amount of power that it takes to run three cloths dryers. It is extremely energy efficient for the amount of lights they are using. Some people think that it is extremely wasteful to put this much work and energy and materials into one holiday, but year after year disney re-use the decorations and try to be as energy efficient as possible. When it is all said and done it looks amazing and brings happiness to many people.

Clothes That Tell Stories

“What a strange power there is in clothing – Isaac Bashevis Singer”

One big question I always ask myself is why do cultures all have different styles and stories behind the way they dress. The way people dress has a lot to do with their location and the resources they are around. One example is in accent cultures the color purple ment royalty because it was rare and very expenses to get a hold of the things that make the color purple. The African culture use very little cloth and a lot of color. Each of the colors has a special meaning other than just that they like it. I love the way they tell a story with their cloths. Cloths allow you to express your self and your culture. Cloths make you stop and look deep in to the meaning of what the colors mean and how the piece is supposed to make you feel. http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/countries/global-fashion-photos/#/fashion-models-new-york_12352_600x450.jpg

People who live in Sweden will dress differently then the people in Africa because of the climate difference. The colder climates all have similar style of dress, just like the warmer climates all have the same styles of dress. The country’s that have a lot of bright colors in their cloths have those bright colors because those are the natural resources they have access to, like brightly colored flowers or berries. Location is the most influential on the way people dress and the style that the dress in. You can infer a lot about the location that someone lives in based on the way they dress.

Follow the leader?

Waching the clip about the shirtless guy was a little supprising. There were a few reasons why I was supprised, for one I can’t belive someone joined the man dancing. Also when the seconed guy joined in it did not take long for  more people to join. It dosnt make a lot of sense  to join or not join somthing because of fear of jugment, most the people there proubably will never see each other againe. If we can’t let loose in front of strangers for somthing as silly as dancing how will we ever progress in the world. If  we are to afraid to step out and share our ideas we will never reach our full potential.
